Abstract

Teaching in the online modality and teaching with technology are not interchangeable phrases—I yet, it is important to understand how to use various internet technologies for online teaching (Belt & Lowenthal, 2020). Recently, Barbour and Hodges (2024) highlighted all the evidence that ignored the reality that not only that there would be a serious pandemic, but that government institutions and systems—particularly schools—were woefully underprepared. In these late stages of the pandemic, there might be general signs of economic recovery, particularly in countries like the U.S., where most decisions about COVID-19 population welfare were made with economics as a top consideration (Maani & Galea, 2020; Vanness et al., 2021). Even as economic indicators technically improve, many schools are still facing an enormity of challenges. In moving forward with online teaching and learning and with technology uses for online teaching and learning, it is important to consider the whole context of the trauma that has been happening before, during, and since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic (Rice, et. al 2024). In this light, we must make time to have serious conversations about both new and emerging technologies and online learning.
