Abstract

During the Spring 2021, schools in the U.S. were required to return to offering at least some in person learning or face funding shortfalls. In these circumstances, I, (Mary) was able to observe teachers as they negotiated a modality where all students were synchronously working with the teacher during the school day, but some were in the physical classroom and others joined remotely. As the students filled both the physical room and the virtual room of a resource classroom for students with disabilities, a boy appeared on camera and asked his teacher if he could see him.
